The Story of Comedy, Love & Sacrifice
Manju Mandavya has been performing the duty of a story and dialogue writer, director, singer as well as the lyricist of the songs. But now, he appears as an actor with a film’s direction. Sri Bharatha Baahubali has been quite satisfying to its audiences. However, Manju tried his best to show sacrifice and love in this film in some extent. He used the experience and skills he has got from his seniors like TN Seetharam, Upendra. Even he is also included in the list of successful and blockbuster films.
This year’s early Sri Bharatha Baahubali is a better-than-average type Sandalwood film. This movie has a different plot than regular romantic-comedy film.
An adopted child try to identify her blood relationship with the biological parents. This is a good attempt from the director Manju Mandavya.
It’s not that easy to find the actual taste of comedy in a Kannada film. Sri Bharatha Baahubali is exceptional to this. The story is unique and appears interesting from the beginning. A foreign girl named Sri which was performed by Sarah Harish, faces recurring dreams. She lives far away from her birthplace. Maybe this can be one reason to see such kind of dreams; the Baahubali statue, deep well, falling stone, a giant wheel, and Gommateashwara Statue etc. Isn’t this strange to see in dreams again and again?
It becomes more interesting when Sri finds that she has to complete the incomplete jobs of a previous life as she is reincarnated. So, she travels back to India with her boyfriend. There in the town named Hassan, she needs to bail out two young rowdies. Bharatha (Manju Mandavya) and Baahubali (Chikkanna) can help Sri to trace her birth roots. But they are not the decent young guys who either keep themselves busy in study or the jobs. When Sri first meets them, they try to make a fool of her. Later on, they all together become successful in meeting Sri’s biological parents.
You will find the climax bit more logical and thoughtful than some other significant points of the story. Manju Mandavya has given his best performance in this film. Thus, he tries to carry the story on his shoulders. Of course, his screenplay, lyrics, production and direction are also present in this film. Somehow, you will feel him getting tired sometimes on the screen.
Anyway, don’t go for the logic in the film. From the sense of a critic, the movie Sri Bharatha Baahubali has failed to connect the link between the first half of the story with the last half. If you are patient enough, you can manage the connection. You may want to ask some questions like – how did Sri think the white-skinned parents can be her parents whereas she is not a white-skinned girl at all? How can she use her mouth to speak with her (non)native Kannada language without any mistake?
Repeatedly, the director presented Sri as a foreigner and no absolute details of her origin.
Sarah Harish, the debutant actress, appeared good in this film. She must improve herself in acting for the upcoming projects. Some other characters like Achyuth Kumar, Rishi, Srinivas Muthry did very well though their presence in the film was for a very short time.
The parallel hero Chikkanna has tried harder to act in a different role. Usually, he works as a comedian or funny hero’s character in the Sandalwood. It was quite more laborious for him to leave the tone. He couldn’t manage to balance his actions not as a lead hero nor a comedian. You may become a bit offensive to hear the bad jokes related to #MeToo.
The technical sides of Sri Bharatha Baahubali are more impressive than other parts of the story. Manikanth Kadri has produced quality medleys, which is an excellent result of his music direction skills. If the cinematographer and the editor could have added more effort, this movie might get the seal of the blockbuster.
Overall, Sri Bharatha Baahubali is a movie for the die-hard Kannada film lovers. If you are one of them, you shouldn’t miss seeing the activities of a director as a hero in this film. In a word, it’s a fantastic romantic comedy genre film.
