These are the days, Salman Khans of Bollywood are making records and breaking them too. In last 2-3 years, we have seen lots of films those earned more than 100+ crore rupees. Salman’s Bharat (2019) has fascinated the audience with the story of an 8 y/o boy keeping his promise towards his father to keep his family safe and sound. It’s written and directed by one of the most talented media persons, Ali Abbas Zafar. However, the plot is based on Ode to My Father (2014), the ideal South Korean drama film of Yoon Je-Kyoon.
This movie was released in Eid season of 2019. So, likely the fans of Salman eagerly waited to have a glimpse of him in his movie. Usually, we are familiar with Bhaijaan’s action movie. But this one has been fantastic.
Every year Bharat (Salman) celebrates his birthday though he is 70 years old now. His grandchildren are too much loved by their unmarried old Granddad. He starts telling them the story of his life, how it was back then during the partition of the sub-continent. This partition had made him along his mother and sister climb up on the train. But he loses his younger sister Guriya in the crowd. His father (Jackie Shroff) fails to come back with the girl. Jackie gives the kid Kabir Sajid aka Bharat his own watch. Then he requests or you can say forces kid to keep a promise. This is the promise what you can see in the earlier paragraph.
Sonali Kulkarni, Bharat’s mother stitches a piece of cloth that helps him later to meet his own sister. The acting of young Bharat was mind-blowing. His movement was a mixture of love, respect, fear, responsibilities et. But Salman is the main focus rather than this small kid.
Friendship is a great thing hence proved in this drama film. Salman finds a Muslim boy during the partition named Vilayti. This boy turned out to be Sunil Grover in adult age. His (young Vilayti) dialogue is quite better example of patriotism. He plans to stay in India, a Hindu-majority country instead he is a Muslim boy, should be in Pakistan. However, both Vilayti and Bharat become best friends. Vilayti supports as a strong character to his friend.
We have to stand along if we are Indians and watching this movie. Salman makes everyone on and off the screen to sing the National Anthem together (Jana Gana Mana). This scene will make you weak to drop your tears due to patriotism.
What haven’t Bharat done to run his family?!
He joins the Great Russian Circus to be Evel Knievel. He runs motorcycle on a circular drum-like thing. His stunts are very interesting to them to try this at least once.
He helps to save life of 33 miners including him working under the mine. There was an earthquake which makes them fear. Later on, he joins as a Sailor man in a merchant ship with Vilayti. There he makes the South African pirates dance with Amitabh Bachchan’s song.
The songs of Bharat are good but not like that you are going to listen to them after a couple of years. In the theater, people start using phones while Salman was dancing with Madam-Sirji (Katrina Kaif). Katrina has shown her best in this movie. She has several job posts like employment officer, supervisor of an oil field, news reader, Creative Director of a TV channel. Till the end before her marriage with Salman at old age, they both remain in a live-in relationship. It’s a new idea though in this sub-continent.
Before 15 minutes from the denouement, four motorbike riding young goons attack old gray-haired Bharat. We are about to shake our body seeing the four goons falling on the ground.
Comedy isn’t significantly present in this movie. But nobody will stay silent to see Sunil’s dress up like Bharat Maa. In the foring port, he falls in love with a foreign girl which is quite strange in Indian society.
After all, if you think this as a time-passing movie, then it’s perfect. But if you want to find the aesthetic value, the. This one is less recommend though Salman and the story is quite interesting.
